Many suppliers must provide their product data to distributors and retailers. However, any time data is published, integrated or updated, a sustainable process must exist to support those functions. Sometimes, short cuts are taken because it is far too easy to view the assignment as one event, thinking erroneously, this will occur just this one time.

There is a real danger in not being able to accurately support the data in the future if there were a period when data was not published or updated. Certain types of data changes like the identity keys of GTIN's or even the suppliers' Catalog number or a "change management history field" must not get out-sync from the original data file because if it does, it creates many extra steps for the data creators (suppliers) as well as all of their data targets (customers).
